Our Fixer Upper
Our renovation journey began in the spring of 2016 when we purchased our first fixer upper, a foreclosed 100 year old home in Versailles, Kentucky. Every inch of the house needed work and after a 3 month renovation, we moved in early that summer. I documented the entire process from start to finish, and still continue to add updates today as we keep making additional progress and improvements. We fell in love with the entire renovation process and were already ready to take on the next project before this one had even wrapped up.
About a year after purchasing our first fixer upper, we purchased our first commercial project, The Amsden building, right down the street in downtown Versailles. We were infatuated with the history and character of the building and just loved the small town downtown charm. Our hope is that this building will be an anchor to the revitalization of downtown Versailles, and hopefully eventually inspire similar efforts in surrounding downtown areas of central Kentucky.
Thank you so much for following along with us on our fixer upper journey!

I have been scheming on giving my kitchen a little refresh over the last year and with the new year kicking off, I was itching for a new house project! I enjoyed working with Wow 1 Day Painting Lexington so much last year and was thrilled to work with them again on this project. Since last working with them, they have added a slew of new services including trimwork, carpentry, drywall repair, framing, flooring, and more!

The big reveal is finally here and I still can’t believe that we pulled this off in time! This space encompasses ME possibly more than any other room I’ve ever designed. In the midst of a challenging personal week, when I could’ve easily thrown in the towel, I threw all my emotion and energy into this space, and I think you can see that in every corner and detail. Not to mention, for the second time I failed to realize we were leaving on vacation in the middle of the final reveal week, cutting my time short (also did this with my playroom makeover on my first round in 2020!). Despite all that, we have a finished space that I am so proud of!
The final week of this year’s One Room Challenge is here and panic is starting to set in! I feel like I am more behind than I have ever been before, and it will truly be an impressive feat if I get this space completely done! This week has consisted of SO much work- painting, sanding, caulking, wallpapering, building, and more! Let’s talk about the tablecloth cabinet we’re building on one of the front walls!
This week it’s all about the fabrics! I have been narrowing down options for the cabinet curtains and window cafe curtains. Shown below are some combinations I’ve put together with the wallpaper we are using in the space. The wallpaper and cabinet curtain will be on the same wall, but window curtains a little further away for reference. I originally was thinking of doing the same fabric for both but then found so many great options, I decided to mix it up!
It’s Week 5 and time to finally settle on a cabinet color! I have been going back and forth with this decision from the beginning but cabinets are going in next week and must be painted so I have to make the final call! My original inspo for this space had both dark and moody paint colors as well as these bright and fun, green and yellow colors. I ultimately settled on the brighter color scheme since I have so much vintage and retro dishware to display and I feel like it will flow better with my collections overall. Also it just makes me so happy to look at and I think that’s important!
I can’t believe we are officially halfway there in this year’s One Room Challenge! I am definitely feeling more behind than usual (which is saying A LOT) and it’s going to be a serious race to the finish line this year! Even though I do feel like I’m crawling along, we did accomplish a lot this week! The space is a MESS right now but for good reason- read along below for all the updates!
This week I finalized and ordered all the cabinets for the back wall of the pantry which will house the bulk of the storage for the space. I was able to get ALL the cabinets (uppers and lowers) for over 12 ft of space for under $1,700! This was a big win for me if you know how expensive cabinets can be and I was still able to get exactly what I wanted. This was mostly made possible by another lucky Facebook marketplace find of these amazing antique glass front cabinets! I was able to get 4 for $175 each and they just happen to be the exact size I need to go all the way to the ceiling on the top half of the wall. They have the most beautiful paned glass fronts and even little drawers at the bottom of each! I couldn’t believe they fit the exact size I needed not only height-wise, but also are a standard width so I could get lower cabinets to match. These will all be stripped and refinished/repainted and new hardware added.
This week I have been narrowing down selections for our pantry space and trying to build a general color scheme. As usual, I started with wallpaper to get inspired by the colors and prints! Not even sure exactly where we’ll be using this- whether on the walls, backsplash, or back of shelves, but definitely going to add some wallpaper accents somewhere! Check out some of my favorite picks so far below!
It’s our favorite time of year again- The One Room Challenge! I have been so excited to reveal my project this year that I have had selected for quite some time. This year I will be making over my…..pantry! This is going to be such a fun space to transform and I have so many ideas for it that I have been saving for years.
Time to kick of the new year with my first home project of 2023! I am itching for anothe room makeover and have decided to take on my dressing room first! This is a space I use every day and it has been partially unfinished in a lot of ways since we moved in. I am ready to finally finish it out and make it the over-the-top girly dressing room of my dreams! I can’t wait to share the entire process with you so you can follow along and help me make decisions along the way!
The last room in the Holiday Home Tour his year is the master bedroom! I always do these skinny Christmas trees here because they can fit anywhere! And, of course — two are better than one! I have them flanking the bed, with a garland across the headboard, and I always add a wreath over the antlers.
The kitchen area is typically the last space that I decorate each year! We love to get a real tree to put in here, so we wait until after Thanksgiving.
The front porch this year for Christmas was one of my favorites - and we even enjoyed it with a white Christmas! For my front porch, I add a mismatched collection of extra trees I have thrifted over the years and place them in various planters and containers I keep out here year-round. This is an easy way to add a lot of trees to a porch, or any other outside space, without spending a bunch of extra money.
The playroom is always one of my favorite spaces to decorate for the holidays! Like I do with the other rooms in my house, I love to stick with the existing color scheme - and here, that means vibrant colors
To conclude the Fall Home Tour, I am sharing the final room – the playroom! I loved adding some fun Halloween touches to this space by using some vintage decorations that I already had and by purchasing some new Halloween favorites.
One of my favorite places to enjoy the fall weather is on our side porch! This year we switched out our outdoor wicker sofa for this sectional - which technically isn’t an outdoor piece. I decided to Scotchguard the entire thing, and since it’s under a covering, it worked for us!
The kitchen deserves some fall cozy décor, too! I love setting the mood for all the fall recipes I enjoy making and serving this season.
The front porch is always one of my favorite places to decorate for the holidays! I love mixing fun Halloween decorations with classic, neutral fall staple pieces.
The entryway is always such a fun space to decorate for Halloween and fall! This newly redecorated space would be the perfect backdrop for some haunted, spooky decor! I love how it mixes in with the moody wallpaper and antique rugs- it truly feels like you’ve stepped into a haunted mansion!

Fall is finally here! I always enjoy adding some fall touches throughout the living room especially textiles and accessories for the season. Texture is key and these budget-friendly pieces are easy to incorporate into any style, and are sure to give your home that cozy inviting fall look.
Today I’m sharing our Easter playroom with a few fun spring touches! I just couldn’t resist adding a little Easter decor in here especially since the colors match up so perfectly! I put out a few vintage Easter decorations that I’ve had since I was little and I also added all our Easter and spring books to the book wall. You can find all my favorite pieces linked for you to shop below!
It’s officially time to start pulling out the spring decor and I am beyond ready to add some more color and spring touches throughout my home! Thanks to Wayfair, I was able to get a jump start on refreshing some kitchen countertop decor in my home just in time for spring! Wayfair has always been one of my go-to shops for both clients and myself- for everything from furniture, lighting, faucets, rugs, accessories, and more!
The mudroom and laundry room in our home has been where I display all my more kitschy and fun vintage Christmas decor collection over the last few years! I love how the bright colors pop off of the black and white in this room and it’s just a fun and cheerful sight to walk into! This space is multi-functional but very open so I like to keep it looking as pulled together as possible. You can shop my decor and similar items linked below!
Kitchens deserve to be decked out for the holidays too! I love adding some holiday cheer to my kitchen through the greenery, wreaths, and a real Christmas tree. This space always ends up being the most simple and neutral of my Christmas spaces but still has plenty of cozy touches throughout! Below you’ll find pictures of items from this space you can shop as well as similar items too!
Our living room is the next space on my fall home tour! I chose to update my fall decor this year by replacing some of the textiles and built-in accessories with items from The Amsden as well as a few other stores, and you can also shop all of these items below! This room is a prime example of how you don’t have to break the bank to incorporate seasonal decor in your home. A few new additions like swapping out vintage autumn landscape prints in my existing frames, swapping a couple of throw pillows for some warmer tones and textures, and adding some new mantle decor (just plain white mini pumpkins!) were all small and affordable changes that made it feel like I had a completely new, cozy fall space!
The space in my home where I always have the MOST fun decorating for fall is without a doubt, my front porch! Since this is the entry into our home and also visible from the outside to passersby, I always want to go all out! I wanted to create a porch that is fun for the Halloween season, with aspects that are also very traditional fall- it’s the best of both worlds!
I have enjoyed adding these bats to the walls as well as the sticks and crows for the last couple of years, and this year I even added some 3-dimensional hanging bats as well! I also gave a basic fall wreath an upgrade for my front door by adding some craft store Halloween supplies like mini skulls, spiders, and bats as well as dried fall stems! The space is completed with tons of pumpkins and planters filled with mums throughout!
