Today I’ve teamed up with Gordmans to put together 3 different summer centerpieces perfect for all your outdoor entertaining! I love to entertain outside during the summer and one of the keys to a beautiful spread is a pretty centerpiece- whether it be on you dining table or serving table. All 3 of these centerpieces are super quick and easy to put together and every single item I’m using came from my Lexington Gordmans store! Even better, the total of all the items together was less than $150 and these are all items you can use again and again both in your indoor and outdoor decor. All three styles are fun and summery but each slightly different: a preppy and colorful ginger jar arrangement, a simple, neutral boho arrangement, and a natural, beachy arrangement.Read More
One of my favorite ways to entertain outdoors is to set up different food and beverage stations for guest to enjoy. Putting together a big bar cart or beverage table away from the food set-up gives your guests plenty of drink options and the ability to customize their own drinks, while also freeing up space for food on your counter-tops or buffet! I love having designated areas for food, drink, and desserts when entertaining as it helps spread guests out and gives them somewhat of an activity to do as they go from station to station.Read More
I can't think of a better way to kick off summer than a dinner under the stars in the Keeneland Paddock! Thanks to Keeneland's new Paddock Dinner Series, you too can experience one of these intimate, family-style dinners right smack dab in the center of beautiful Keeneland. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is one of the best meals I have ever eaten in Lexington, and each course was better than the last. The decor and ambiance was also just perfect with live music, delicious appetizers and drinks being passed, colorful tablesettings, and twinkle lights strung across the Paddock.Read More
We had the most magical evening at our Creative Collective mentor + mix event sharing all about "Business Basics." The Barn at Springhouse was the perfect venue for this event and I love how we were able to set up the small group sessions around palette tables throughout the barn and beautiful surrounding grounds. We had a lot of returning attendees from our first event and some new faces as well! Huge thanks to the venue and vendors, The Barn at Springhouse, Amendment 21 Event Bartending, Zachary Brady Designs, Kara Shepherd, Joe Dean Hinkle, and Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream! Be sure to scroll through all our photos from the event below (all photos by On a Whim Photography).Read More
It wasn't an ordinary Wednesday afternoon for me, last week I got to take a day trip down to Lake Cumberland State Park for a lunch previewing the new Better in the Bluegrass Culinary Tourism Initiative with the Kentucky Department of Tourism and Kentucky State Parks. The afternoon was warm and sunny, and the state park was the perfect setting with amazing views of Lake Cumberland from every angle! The purpose of the event was to kick-off the new Kentucky State Parks Culinary Trail (more on how to participate in that below), taste some of the amazing signature dishes that had been thoughtfully planned and prepared to represent each region of Kentucky, and overall just promote the impressive and ever-evolving food scene we have here in Kentucky.Read More
Derby parties are one of my favorite events to host and a great way to kick off summer outdoor entertaining. Last year I collaborated with Lex Eats to pull together a collection of all our favorite Kentucky Derby party recipes! Our menu incorporates lots of finger foods + bite sized appetizers perfect for snacking on all day throughout your derby festivities. We also included an easy + refreshing cocktail as well as a fun dessert option! Check out the full menu + recipes below. You can even print out the menu to use for your own derby party! I'm always so excited to try out new local businesses in the Lexington area, but especially when one of my dear friends is one of the owners! Lexington's newest must-visit spot is Varnish Nail Shoppe, an chic and high end all-natural nail salon. They truly nailed every detail in this shop from the minimal, midcentury decor to the well-curated array of products and services. The service is top-notch and you really feel pampered every step of the way! One of my favorite parts of my manicure is when they mixed up a custom sugar hand scrub with my favorite scents right in front of me. I also really loved the selection of stylish polish colors that they had available AND they specialize in doing some super chic nail art too!Read More
