It’s amazing how much impact your accessories have on the overall feel of a room. This project was a “decor refresh” where we kept all the main pieces but switched out small accessories/decor to completely transform the overall style of this living room. This client wanted to modernize their farmhouse living room and make it more clean and simple overall. They already had great, quality furniture pieces, so there was no need to replace any of those! We stripped down the space and updated small items like lamps, coffee table accessories, wall decor, and pillows! The end product is so classic but also modern and chic and will last this couple for years to come!Read More
I love to decorate mantles for every season, but for Christmas you can really go all out with all the trimmings! From garlands and lights, to wreaths and stockings- the possibilities are endless! I especially love Christmas mantles that incorporate less-traditional holiday decor and super unique and eclectic arrangements. Here are my top 15 favorite swoon-worthy holiday mantles!
What better way to celebrate our first fall weekend than with a makeover giveaway?! There's nothing more exciting than designing a space completely from scratch and surprising one of my clients with the completed look! This client wanted all new holiday decor for her mantle and trusted me completely to put together a design that she would love. I was inspired by the rest of her living room to keep the design simple + modern with lots of neutrals that would seamlessly blend in to the rest of her decor.
I was able to find most of the decorations at my favorite place, Target, which always has the best selection of unique, modern Christmas decor. I love the mix of more rustic materials (woodgrain, fresh greenery, and white-wash) with super glitzy and glam elements (like her starburst mirror, glittered trees, and mirrored snowflake garland). My favorite feature is the super modern layered garland: I topped a fresh pine garland (from Trader Joe's) with two different unique garlands from Target. I chose some simple wool and faux fur stockings too which I tucked into the garland off to one side.
I filled the rest of the mantle with a mixture of different mini trees, a distressed wood wreath, and white-washed deer. I usually play around with these arrangements to try to find the perfect balance on each side. On the ledge below the mantle I placed a gold metal basket filled with a boxwood wreath (also from Trader Joe's), another deer, and small tree off to one side. I love to use baskets on fireplace ledges to help them look less bare. You can fill them a mixture of firewood, blankets, pinecones, or greenery. I also added a few little touches to the shelves beside the fireplace to keep the eye moving across the space (all those items are from Michael's).
I love the neutral color scheme mixed with pops of fresh greenery! The best part is that all of these items are perfect for mixing and matching with so many different color schemes and styles of decor, so she will be able to use them year after year. Stay tuned to see more of my Christmas tree decorating and shelf styling for this same client later next week! In the meantime, you can shop all the items used for this mantle at the end of this post!
I wanted to share another holiday design project I just finished up today. I was thrilled to get to decorate this mantle in a beautiful home in the Beaumont neighborhood of Lexington. The owner told me she used lots of pinecones, berries, and natural elements to decorate her tree in this room, which she sets up right next to the fireplace. She wanted to start from scratch with the mantle and do something totally different this year that would still fit in with her tree decor.
We were working with a budget of $100 to shop for items for this mantle and we came in just under that total. I also kept a few items that she had already on the mantle like the jars, and candlesticks, which I purchased new candles (from Homegoods) for that felt more "holiday" themed. For the garland on the mantle, I mixed a fresh pine garland from Trader Joe's with a pinecone garland from Michael's and some LED twinkle lights (from Target). The twinkle lights from Target were perfect because they also had little pinecones and red stars mixed in with them. The wreath, mini Christmas trees, silver bottle brush trees, and gold metal reindeer were all thrifting finds and the grand total for all of those items was under $40! The wooden "Noel" sign also came from Michael's, while the small pinecone arrangements in silver pots came from Homegoods. The look is simple + classic and the great thing is that most of these decorations are not so obviously Christmas, so they could also stay up throughout the winter months too!
