One Room Challenge 2021: Week 5- The Regroup Week, Vintage Rugs, Paint Colors, + More!

Welcome to week FIVE of the One Room Challenge. This week was the week of regrouping for me. I had to come to terms with the fact that everything I had planned for the space is just not going to happen in the 8 week timeline as I cannot get any contractors or subs scheduled with how busy everyone is. I want everything done right, and want to use people I trust, so I would rather wait than rush it. I have decided I will do two reveals instead! I will still do a reveal at the end of 8 weeks with a good deal of projects done- wallpaper, upstairs desk area, new dutch door, gallery wall/stair landing feature wall, light fixtures, and a partial (possibly entire) staircase runner.

Then we’ll add to it by opening up the wall in between the living room and entry, adding the built-in bench and opening up the under the stairs nook, and finally painting all the trim and touching up the walls as needed. After all of that is completed (hopefully just a few weeks after the 8 week reveal), I will have a wonderful and exciting BIG final reveal! This is obviously not ideal and y’all know I DESPISE not hitting a goal I set for myself, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that this is what’s best for the end product and I do not want to compromise on anything renovation-wise as we’ve done before. I want everything to be complete, clean, and perfect!

Even though I’ve had a ridiculous number of set backs, I still have a ton of updates to share this week and I still would love your feedback and votes on a few more things! Take a look below and let me know your thoughts!

xoxo

This week I decided to move the console table we had at the bottom of the entryway upstairs just to see if it happened to fit and it did, perfectly! I think it will be the perfect desk area for the space and I love how it is the exact dimensions of this nook! It is also narrow enough to fit well here without extending into the walkway especially with a chair added. I plan on painting it the same color as the trim (a slate blue- sharing paint samples for this and asking you to vote for your faves below!) and I will add some new fun knobs.

I have also ordered this desk chair and I ordered two light fixture options (West Elm here and Vintage Illuminations here- shown in mockups below) to choose from. I wanted to see these in person in the space before deciding, but I’m leaning towards the more simple white and brass one. I have also done some mock-ups below showing the light fixtures, desk (subbed in a similar blue one for the mock-ups!), chair, and some vintage rugs I selected for the space! Be sure to vote below and let me know which you like best!

In true Emily fashion, I’ve added even more paint color options for the trim throughout the entryway. I just wanted to make sure I had looked at all the options! I’ve listed them below- these are all Valspar from Lowe’s. As mentioned above, I plan on painting the desk upstairs the same color to kind of blend in with the trim and give it a more built-in look! I will also probably do one of these colors on the inside and outside of the front door- maybe a couple shades darker or lighter than the trim color for a little contrast!

I am personally leaning towards Groundwater, Blue Mountaintop, and Evening Eclipse!

These are all the vintage stair runners I have ordered so far! I have WAY more square footage than I need but I wanted to have plenty of options. I am excited to mix and match them and place them throughout the entryway. I have one small set of stairs at the top of the entry nook, then the landing, then the longer set of stairs down to the front door. I plan on doing a stair runner down each set of stairs, leaving the landing alone in between. This will allow me mix and match all the different prints in two different areas so it’s not too much at once. I can also use the top set of stairs as my guinea pig since they are much less visible and only have about 4 stairs to work with!

All of the rugs above are sourced from Etsy. There are SO many amazing rug dealers on there now and most everything ships quick and free even though it’s international. Most of these rugs ranged from $50-200 and sizes from 3 feet up to 12 feet, which I was very pleased with as far as vintage rug pricing goes. I’m excited to tackle this DIY project and see how it turns out! I am still unsure whether I’ll be able to complete the full set of stairs before we open up the wall between the living room and entry. I am thinking I should probably wait so it doesn’t get damaged and because they will likely have to replace a couple stair treads at the bottom of the stairs anyways.

So now since I’ve moved our console table upstairs, I need a new one for downstairs! This actually worked out perfectly since this is the first thing you see when you walk in, so I wanted more of statement piece here. Now I just have to find the perfect piece and I’m leaning towards something vintage. Below is the piece I have fallen in love with! It’s wicker, already the perfect color, and amazing! The shipping though for vintage furniture is outlandish, and I just can hardly bear to double the price with shipping! I’m not ruling it out but I would love for you all to help me scout out other options you may see- plus if it’s local and I don’t have to have it shipped!

Things I’m looking for: around 40-55 inches long and up to 18ish inches deep. I am totally fine to paint or refinish something too if it has good lines and is unique. I would love something wicker, caned, marble, a unique shape or material in any way! I am also open to a credenza/buffet type piece with storage if again it’s super unique!
