Style It: Simple Indoor/Outdoor Centerpiece

Say hello to my latest decorating obsession: vase fillers!  These little tools of the trade are the perfect way to add texture to any space, and instantly make your accessories look completely pulled together.  What's the best place to get them?  My go-tos are definitely Home Goods, Marshalls, and TJMaxx, they always seem to have a good variety (usually near the candles in Home Decor) and have a constantly changing selection.  Better yet they usually retail for $2.99-$5.99 for an entire bag full!  I have been looking for some accessories for my patio that will hold up to the outdoor elements while still looking chic and modern.  I was able to put together this entire centerpiece that is all completely outdoor-proof for under $30, all from Home Goods.  Even better, all the pieces are classic and neutral and I can easily reuse them other places throughout the house or bring the entire arrangement inside for the winter!

All you need to make your own indoor/outdoor centerpiece is:

1. A shallow basket or tray.  I liked the brown/gray tone of this one AND it is coated in a plastic material so it would be waterproof and super durable for the outdoors- $14.99 from Home Goods

or shop these similar options:

2.  A small plant in a pot.  A succulent or fern works well and is easy to care for (They usually have a good selection at Lowe's or Home Depot or try a local greenhouse).  Your pot won't be super visible so you can use something you already have (even a classic terracotta pot would work), or grab something inexpensive at the store.  I got this coppery colored planter at Home Goods too (on clearance for $3.00!).

3. Vase fillers.  I used 3 bags because my tray was rather large (two bags would have probably been plenty).  There are so many options out there to choose from, here are some other choices that I liked:

Now you can put it all together! Assemble your centerpiece by first placing your potted plant in the center of your tray.  Next add your largest vase fillers first to fill up the bottom, then slowly fill the top with the rest, arranging your favorites on top so that they are most visible! Voila- you are done!

Decorating doesn't get much easier than that!  This is a centerpiece that you can use year-round indoors or out- it's perfect for a dining table, buffet, or coffee table.  I would love to see how you customize it and make it your own!

xoxo

Emily
