I have been SO excited to share this amazing transformation of one of my latest design projects. This client's bathroom was original to the home and had not been updated since they had lived there. I was so excited when they asked me to help with the design and coordination of this renovation especially after hearing their vision and ideas for the space. Miller Team Renovations handled all the tile and renovation work from start to finish and they were wonderful to work with. I appreciated that they kept me updated every step of the way and allowed me to make every single little decision about the space, which is so rare.Read More
One of the requests I get most from clients is to help them arrange and hang their wall decor. I cannot tell you how many homes I have visited that have a fully decorated house but still have blank walls, just because they don't know where to get started and are afraid to "mess up." That's why I've gathered up all my best tips and tricks that make hanging wall decor and frames as easy as possible. Throughout my experience hanging wall decor in my own home, client's homes, businesses and restaurants, as well as retail and offices, I have learned a lot from trial and error, as well as from working with all different shapes, sizes, and types of wall decor. Take a look at my top tips, must-have tools, favorite tutorials, and more below!Read More
While I was putting together my recent post on "How to Make the Coziest Bed", I asked my followers to let me know if they had any bedding related questions that I should include and answer in the post. I got so many great questions but the original post ended up being so long and full of information that I decided to do a separate post to answer your questions! I pulled the 4 most popular questions and answered them below including lots of inspiration photos + product links too! I hope this helps answer your questions and gives you a little design direction!Read More
It's finally patio weather season and there's nothing better than a cozy + inviting outdoor space. I'm helping several clients with porch and patio designs right now, so I've definitely got outdoor decor on the brain! I like to think of these spaces as just another room of your home that should be equally as cozy and beautiful! Since these areas are usually used as a summer entertaining space, I recommend adding in some pops of color and fun decor elements that might even be a little outside of your normal style! Patterns, textures, and bright colors will definitely give your space that warm and inviting feel. Starting by picking a few pillows or an outdoor rug will give you a good direction on your color scheme for the space. As far as furniture, I recommend investing in pieces that are comfortable, durable, and neutral (and that includes neutral cushions!). Outdoor furniture can sometimes be pricey, but the more expensive pieces will probably last longer and be way more comfortable (so you'll end up using them more!). You may have space for both a sitting area and outdoor dining space, but if not choose which type of seating you think you will use the most.
A few of my essentials for decking out your space:
1. a printed outdoor rug
2. several outdoor pillows in mixed prints + colors
3. a couple of lanterns
4. mix + match side tables + a coffee table, pouf, or ottoman
5. cute string lights or twinkle lights for hanging above your space!
6. planters: all sizes including hanging, tabletop, + floor planters
I've put together some of my favorite patio picks that are available now in-stores for you below! Even better, all of these items can work + coordinate together to give you the super bright + modern patio space of your dreams! You can click on any of the photos below to see more details + pricing of any item too. Happy shopping and let me know how your patio decorating comes along!
Last week was full of holiday decorating appointments and I'm excited to share some peeks of a few of them this week! This client wanted their front porch and dining nook decorated for the holidays. She also wanted some new artwork or wall hanging for above the turquoise piece that was a little more holiday themed. We decided to go for a large chalkboard, since she would be able to use it even after the holidays by just changing out the artwork! I found the chalkboard at Hobby Lobby for 50% off (sales rotate at Hobby Lobby so these are usually on sale every other week).
I was able to duplicate artwork for the chalkboard from an inspiration picture that my client sent me (see below). Most of the other accessories used were items that she already owned and leftovers from the rest of her Christmas decorating. Thankfully all the items went together perfectly and I was able to pull together some cute vignettes with them. The only things that I purchased to add was the fresh greenery, and glass cloche (which I added ornaments inside of). She had lots of cute little jars and bottles which I made a little more festive just by adding a couple sprigs of greenery inside. Since there's already some pops of color in this space, I loved having the mostly white + neutral Christmas decor in this area!
She also had some cute items to work with for the porch, including some wreaths, lanterns, and the "JOY" sign. I thought the sign would be a cute pop of color on the door so I attached it to the wreath to hang from the bottom. I also used another extra wreath she had and layered it on top of a fresh wreath to make it more substantial. I added extra wide burlap ribbon to both of the wreaths to tie everything together. We knew we wanted to use lots of lanterns and cluster them together. I filled the largest lanterns with some shatter-proof ornaments and then used battery operated twinkle lights inside them too. Above the door I hung a simple swag of fresh greenery and added a cute little banner garland on top from Target. The finished look is super simple and cheerful and definitely matches the decor inside of the house too! Many of you have inquired about decorating services and I'm happy to announce some design packages available for the upcoming holiday season! I am currently working on getting a full "design" portion of our website up and running, but until then I wanted to share a preview of what we will offer. We have limited spots available and are ready to help you start decking out your space as early as next week! The holiday season is such a crazy and hectic time and many people don't have the time or energy to decorate like they want to! Let me take over and completely transform your space in just a few hours!
My goal is to offer reasonably priced design that everyone can afford. I also love working with your existing decor, especially by incorporating keepsakes or family heirlooms into your holiday decorations. Even if we are using the same old decorations you have had for years, I can find new and different ways to style it and rework it in your home. My design philosophy is to create spaces that are both comfortable and cozy, but also completely unique and customized. One of my favorite part of the new house is our giant front porch! Even though the old floor boards need a little work (hopefully will get to this next spring/summer), it is such a wonderful space to have and fun area to decorate! Right now we have one side set up with a small table and chairs and the other with a bench. We eventually want to definitely get a hanging porch swing for here. The center of the porch is where our front door is and there are a double set of stairs leading up to the porch from the circular driveway in front of our house.
We lucked out on finding this cute little IKEA dining set a garage sale and it's the perfect size for the porch. I created a simple centerpiece on the middle of the table with a few different colored pumpkins + wooden candlesticks. I also found the hanging gold planters at a garage sale and filled them with my favorite fall plants: cabbages + kale!
Near the front door I have some more pumpkins and old distressed baskets filled with ferns (also garage sale finds). This gold wreath on the front door is one of my favorite wreaths and I pretty much use it year round. I layered it on top of a dried fall floral wreath that I found while thrifting. Layering wreaths is my favorite way to create a one-of-a-kind statement piece for the front door.
Foddershocks have become one of my traditional decorations every year and I couldn't wait to decorate these columns with them! This year I found these giant ones just down the road at the Woodford Feed Co. and they go all the way from the ground to the roof!
Since this area is protected from the rain I was able to pile my bench full of pillows + a cute plaid blanket. The floral pillows are vintage barkcloth that I found at an estate sale, while the gingham + "Hello Fall" pillow were steals from the Target Dollar Spot. The wool blanket is also a vintage find and a perfect pop of color.
No southern porch is complete without some mums and I love the pop of color they add especially in these vintage brass planters. This little area by the door is probably my favorite little vignette on the porch. I used an old piece of barnwood to make this vertical sign a couple years back. It says "FALL" on one side and "JOY" on the other so I can use it for both fall and Christmas decorating. In front of it I used an old wooden trough to hold some pumpkins, gourds, plant, sticks, and dried hydrangeas. I also used a vintage basket beside it to hold a cluster of some more dried hydrangeas (I can't ever get enough!) and cornstalks.
Here you can see the full layout of the porch. Future plans include replacing all the floorboards with black reclaimed wood and hopefully replacing that lattice at the bottom of the porch with something more solid and finished looking (maybe some kind of stonework or solid wood). I'd also love to make some simple, real wood shutters like they use on Fixer Upper quite often. For now though I'm enjoying having this extra outdoor space and just one more area for me to decorate! While most of the items I used on this porch are thrifted or vintage, I've linked some similar options at the end of this post for you to shop.
