Shop our Autumn Simmering Scent + Learn How to Make Your Own!
One of my favorite parts of fall is definitely all the wonderful cozy scents of the season! I’ve been making my signature “autumn simmering scent” for years since the very beginning of my blog and I always enjoy sharing it with you all each season! Each year I have added a few more ingredients and perfected my recipe a little more. This year I made my biggest batch yet so I could offer these online available for shipping (shop below) and also available in store at the mercantile inside the Amsden. These are available in single serve small boxes or larger bags that you can break up into multiple uses. You can also keep this as a dried potpourri mix instead of simmering with water and just place in a bowl or jar! I recommend grabbing one of our new fall oil scents too and adding a couple drops to make it even more amazing! I will also share a list of ingredients and instructions to make your own if you are interested at the end of this post!

Take your scent up a notch or turn it into a dried potpourri mix by adding a few drops of our signature fall oil scents!
Cinnamon Sticks
Cloves
Dried Orange Slices (directions for drying below)
Dried Apple Slices (directions for drying below)
Rosemary
Vanilla Extract
Bay Leaves
Star Anise
Allspice
Cardamom pods
Pumpkin Pie Spice
1. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees.
2. Carefully slice your apples and oranges into thin slices (I used a mandoline slicer for both). 1 apple and 1 orange will make you 2-4 batches.
3. Line a few cookie sheets with parchment paper. Place the apple and orange slices in a single layer on top of the parchment paper.
4. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 hours for the oranges and 3-4 hours for the apples.
5. Remove from the oven and let the dried fruit slices cool.
6. Create a batch of simmering scent by taking a handful of each ingredient: Top with a couple of drops of vanilla and a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice.
7. To use: pour your ingredients into a saucepan, cover with water, and simmer on low heat for as long as you like!
I reuse my simmering scent over and over again! I just leave it on the stove but turn off the heat and cover when I’m not using it (it will get kind of gross looking but it will still smell amazing!). Whenever I want to use it again, I turn the heat back on simmer and add more water if needed. You can use the same batch for several days-a week, before dumping the contents and starting over with a fresh mix!
