DIY Upcycled Vintage Painting for Fall
Here's a super easy way to add some fall decor to your home for just a few dollars! Many of us have seen these classic landscape paintings from the 60's-70's, whether it be in grandma's house or at a garage sale or thrift store. While some might think they are tacky, I personally love some of the fall/winter scenes for seasonal decorating. I was inspired by an older post from one of my fave bloggers DIY Showoff, where she updated one of these paintings for her Thanksgiving decor. After seeing a picture of her project on Pinterest, I came across this painting the next day at the thrift store and snatched it up with the idea to paint some words over it. The next step was to decide what words to paint on it. I searched for "fall chalkboard art" on Pinterest and found so many cute quotes but decided this one fit the size and look of the painting best.
I used my favorite chunky chalkboard pen from Hobby Lobby. It has a really wide tip which I think is much easier to use when you are doing large scale quotes. You could also use a paint pen in any color that you think will compliment and show up well on your painting. I drew the quote freehand but you can easily trace it or practice with chalk or pencil. This project took me less than 10 minutes and I think it will definitely be the focal point of my living room fall decor! I can't wait to try it with more thrift store paintings- there are so many possibilities and cute quotes out there!
