Primary Bathroom Makeover- One Room Challenge: Week 7- The Final Countdown!

Week SEVEN is here and the bathroom could not be more of a mess of ten projects going at once! I can’t believe I have just ONE WEEK to go to get all of this done (trying not to panic over here!). I will definitely be using the full week and be one of the last minute Sunday posters this week. Even though I have so much left to do, we also made SO much progress this week. Take a look below!

First off, our shower glass panel was installed! It made such a difference in opening up the space and making it feel more high-end. Huge shout out to Glass Doctor of Lexington- who custom made the panel and installed it. I cannot recommend them enough! They had amazing customer service, reasonable prices, and were more than willing to customize all my requests. If I had known about them sooner, I definitely wouldn’t have waited to long to do this! I decided to keep it simple with a plain glass panel on one side of the shower. I had considered the more trendy, gridded glass look but eventually decided this would be more timeless and classic. I do have new polished brass shower fixtures as well which will be going in this week!

I also made a ton of progress on the vanity now that the countertops have been installed. I wanted to make this antique furniture base look less rustic and more modern traditional. I have recently been very into custom cabinetry especially with fluted or reed details on the drawers so decided to try to DIY my own version! I found some thin fluted trim pieces at Lowe’s and cut them into strips the length of the drawers, layered them side by side, and wood glued them onto the drawers. I was skeptical but I love how it turned out and it has completely changed the look of this piece! I also got some additional trim pieces to layer on top of the space above the drawers to clean up that area as well! I also got a piece for the strip right below the countertop but haven’t attached it yet so I could paint it first (since this would be too tight to get the paint inside right up against the countertop).

I can’t wait to see it all painted with the new knobs on! I wanted to do a very simple, classic knob since everything else is so detailed. I went with these from Amazon and I feel like they’ll be the perfect finishing touch!

Finally, I also finished painting and adding the wainscotting throughout the bathroom. After the shower glass was installed, I knew I neede to also add the wainscotting on that wall, as I had been debating since it is such a small space. It definitely was needed and looks so much more finished now. I chose a high gloss paint so painting was definitely more of a challenge, as that shows every imperfection. I did a ton of prep work and caulking prior to painting. I also did 2-3 rounds of painting, then sanding, the painting again, especially on the longer wall. The paint color is actually one I was considering for my living room and really liked, Gracious Gray by Valspar.

I found that a small roller for doors/cabinets worked best for the high gloss paint, then touching up with a regular paint brush in tight areas. I am pretty proud that we did this trimwork all by ourselves and now I definitely feel like I could tackle it in other areas of our home! I used this panelling for the wainscotting on the wall and this trim for the top edge all the way around (it has a longer top edge so it sits right on top of the wainscotting completely flush). We used a dremel tool to cut the trim around tight edges (and I also used the sanding attachment for this to sand while painting!). I used an electric nailer to attach all the trim and wainscotting and then used this hammer to make sure all the nails were completely flush.

Now it’s time for me to get all my remaining projects finished up in just ONE WEEK! Next post I make will be the BIG reveal! I can’t wait to share it with you and be ready for some BIG surprises! Now I’m off to paint and paint some more!

xoxo
