How to Style a Floating Ledge Shelf + Perfect Frames for This Project Roundup
One way to add depth to your wall is by hanging floating shelves. One way that I like to utilize a floating shelf is by adding it behind the couch in a living room. This is a great way to add art and style to your space without going the traditional gallery wall route!
The height you hang your shelf really depends on the space. If you are planning to use bigger frames, make sure that you hang them lower! It doesnβt have to be perfectly centered, and I always make sure to hang it high enough, so thereβs no risk of bumping it when getting on/off the couch!
Playing around with the configurations of landscape vs. portrait provides variety when you have frames that are the same size and near each other. Place the largest frames first, then layover on top, filling the space between each. The matted frames allow you to layer more without the risk of covering up the art!
For this configuration we used:
one 20x20
two 16x20
three 11x14
one 5x7
I love a mix of family photos and art prints! Just pick an overall color scheme to work within. Family photos in black and white make this easy, and I pulled colors from the rug for the other prints!
This client had blacks, brass, and various wood tones throughout this room, so we could mix in all of those tones with the frames, too! I usually prefer to mix the finishes as opposed to having only one. I also tried to match the stain of the ledge to the other main furniture in the room (for this particular installation, the chest and side tables that they already had!)
I loved the way this turned out! If you are looking for some prints for your own ledge (or gallery wall!) be sure to check out The Print Shop by clicking here!
All of the frames for its project were purchased at Homegoods, but Iβve linked some similar frames below! Iβve also linked a similar ledge (the one for this project was custom!). You can shop them all by clicking on the photos below!
