Our Fixer Upper: Office Renovation Progress
There’s been a few spaces we haven’t even touched since moving in to our fixer upper. One of those spaces is this awesome bonus room space above our garage which was undoubtedly the nastiest room of the house when we first moved in. The space was filled with badly stained (and stinky) carpet, holes in the walls, broken windows, dust and overall dinginess. We didn’t really need the space for anything right away, so it just sat there and became storage for the first few years we have lived here. You can see some before photos of what the space looked like below:
Recently we’ve started to work on this space so that I can have an office/studio out here. Before JW was born, I had a small office set up in what is now his nursery. When I started decorating his nursery, I just moved all my office stuff into the guest bedroom and that is where it has stayed until we can complete this space.
The first step was flooring- we ripped up the old carpet finally this past summer and that alone made a huge difference. We found super cheap peel and stick laminate at Lumber Liquidators and Alex has been laying it up here and is almost finished. We also had the whole space painted a bright white (Super White by Sherwin Williams) and all the drywall holes repaired and fixed. It already feels so much cleaner and fresher in here.
The next step will be to replace the old lights up here (that ceiling fan needs to go!) and update some of the electrical and wall plugs too. I’m wanting to do a center chandelier over a table and then track lighting on each side so there’s plenty of light in here. Eventually I would love to have a skylight or dormers cut in here so that there’s amazing natural light but that will have to come later.
I’m excited to have such a big open space to work with and I’m overflowing with ideas! I definitely want one or two big work tables that I can spread out on anytime I’m doing DIY projects, sewing, painting, etc. I also want to incorporate plenty of storage, both closed and open throughout the space. Below are some of my current inspiration photos for the space that I’m loving. I’ll continue to share more updates as we make progress over the next month!
xoxo
