Weekend Wardrobe: Sweater Coat Chic

Monochromatic colors, simple patterns, and clean lines: minimal fashion has continued to be a huge trend for several seasons.  I love the idea of minimal fashion even though I'm usually drawn to quite the opposite when picking out clothes.  I've been trying to incorporate more timeless and minimal pieces in my wardrobe and steer clear of the super trendy lately.  This outfit is the perfect example of a collaboration of classic pieces that you will continue to wear year after year.  Another perk is that you can mix and match so many of these pieces together to create endless outfit options.  Here are some of my must-haves to get you started:

1. The chambray shirt: A must-have piece for any wardrobe and you will wear it during every season.  I always opt for vintage ones that are already super soft and worn-in (usually a men's for a more relaxed, oversized fit).  These are perfect for layering and will go with anything and everything.

2. Leather leggings:  I've had these faux leather pants for 6-7 years now and continue to wear them every year. Pick your leather wisely, many can look super cheap so I always opt for the more matte finish.  I like how they give any outfit just a little more edge than regular jeans or leggings.

3. Classic Sneakers:  These will instantly add a cute, casual look to any outfit.  I like the juxtaposition against dressier pieces like these leather pants and the sweater coat.  Go for a neutral color that you can wear with anything: taupe, black, white, or gray and a classic style.  Nike and Converse both have a lot of good options that are also budget-friendly.

4. Sweater Coat:  Both warm and classic, this collarless option is the most chic layering piece. You can choose a print like mine or a go for a solid, neutral color.   It looks perfect layered over button-ups, dresses, casual tees or even belted.  I love the slightly chunky, super-structured silhouette.

Once you start stocking up on these key pieces, you will be amazed at how many more outfit options you can easily throw together!  What are some of your must-have wardrobe pieces?

xoxo
