Weekend Wardrobe: Laid-back in Leather

When it comes to fashion, I truly believe there are no rules.  Wear what you love, take chances, and wear what you feel comfortable in and you will always look great.  For example, most might say that leather is only for winter, but when you find the most perfectly fitting pair of leather shorts while thrifting, you just MUST wear them as much as possible.  When I happened upon these 80's high-waisted faux-leather shorts while thrifting last year, I grabbed them thinking I could sell them and that they probably would not fit me.  Magically they fit perfectly and have been a staple in my closet ever since.  They look adorable over tights in the winter and really add a fun edge to any outfit.  The key to wearing leather shorts without looking all "hoochie-mama" is to balance them out with flowy, loose-fitting pieces on top.  Peasant tops, slouchy button-downs, or unstructured tanks (like the one I'm wearing) all work perfectly.  This flowy, tiered tank from Anthropologie (which is now ON SALE!) has a knit scoop-neck top with drapey cotton-rayon blend bottom in contrasting black and white grid-work print.  I love the laid-back look of this top that you can easily dress up or down, and it is so comfortable and flattering.  I paired it with some simple strappy black wedges, lots of bangles, my favorite vintage hat, and another pop-of-print leopard satchel.
