Primary Bathroom Makeover- One Room Challenge: Week 1

I cannot believe it is already that time again, One Room Challenge 2022, let’s go! This will be my THIRD time participating and I’m starting to feel like an old pro. Even so, I must admit, I am already feeling way behind as I didn’t even realize the challenge had already started until the day of (it’s a month earlier this year!) and I still thought I had plenty of time to decide what room I should do! I was not going to miss out though, so I quickly decided on a space and thankfully had already been scheming on ideas and saving some inspiration throughout the past several months.

This year I will be making over our primary bathroom! Even though we did renovate this space when we moved in, it never was fully finished to my liking and was really done on a major budget. It sadly has never had a ton of personality so that is what I’ll be looking to add throughout the challenge! The main challenge is that I will be trying to give this space a completely new look while still keeping the main elements like tile, flooring, and layout. I will be looking to add tons of character and charm through paint, wall treatments, fabrics, lighting, and accessories- and lots of DIY projects. I want to make this space feel much more high-end and luxurious and an extension of our newly redecorated bedroom right outside the door!

The main reason I chose this space is because I know that I can tackle all of the projects I have in mind myself and not have to depend or wait on contractors or other people, which was a major roadblock for me last year and limited my plans for the space. I also have a small budget for the project and I feel I can be super thrifty with this smaller space but also make a HUGE impact on the feel of the room. I am so excited to get started and FINALLY have a bathroom we can truly enjoy and be proud of.

I love the mix of old and new in here. I would love to add more vintage artwork and update the lighting and mirror similar to this!

One thing that needs the most work is the sink area. We repurposed an old piece of furniture for our vanity + it needs to be refinished + I’d love to add an actual countertop finally similar to this! I also love the wall mount shelving off to the side!

I adore the countertop in here with backsplash extended up (I really want to do this on ours as well and love the more unique arched/scalloped detail on the backsplash. I also love the lighting, mirrors, and color of the vanity. I think adding some trimwork and new hardware to the front of the vanity could really help update it too! Another thing I love about this space is the roman shade on the window! I definitely want to do a beautiful printed shade on our single window in here.

I love the idea of wallpaper for this space! Whether it is just on the sink wall, ceiling, or entire space!

Another example of beautiful but traditional feeling wallpaper mixed in with an antique furniture vanity. I absolutely love the look of the countertop on this vanity and unique backsplash as well. I think something like this could definitely work well with our vanity.

I am really into green paint right now and love the idea of a similar shade for the walls in here or vanity. I also love the wallpaper and lighting in this space. I don’t think I’ll be doing anything this feminine but I like the overall feel.

I love the pop of color on this vanity and also love the idea of a skirted vanity too! This would give us more storage underneath and could allow me to use the same fabric from the window treatment again in the space!

This is my favorite countertop by far- I really want a statement marble or something similar looking! Also love the back-splash continuation up the wall!

I really like paneling and beadboard at the moment and would love to do something similar halfway up the wall. It is ironic that we originally had something similar in this space and unfortunately couldn’t preserve it during the renovation and now I’m wishing we had! I also love the printed sconces, use of wallpaper, wall shelving/art, and window treatments. Also I think I need to find a wooden toilet seat!

If it ends up being out of budget to extend countertop up the backsplash, I may attempt to tile the backsplash myself (would be my first stab at tiling!). I love the look of this overall sink area layout. Also have always though a tall built-in would be great for storage if we could squeeze it in on one side of sink! That may be a larger project than I can handle on my own though!

The overall style of this space is totally what I’m envisioning for our bathroom. A great mix of old and new! I love this wallpaper too!

I really love the backsplash and countertop design on this vanity! I also love the reed detail on the front of vanity drawers and thought that could be something easy to DIY to add personality to our current vanity.

I am obsessed with this entire countertop situation- the backsplash with built-in ledge is amazing! I would love to do something like this if it was within budget.

More painted beadboard, wallpaper, and fabric shades! I love the color combos in here too.

Love this trim color and finish in this space! I am definitely leaning toward some shade of green in here.

Another option for backsplash area would be to do trimwork halfway up with a ledge for extra storage! I love the look of this with wallpaper above as well!

I love the moody vibe of this space. The paint colors, wallpaper, and sconce combo is so good! I definitely want to make this space feel a little more masculine since it is something Alex and I share daily and I have basically put flower prints everywhere else in the house!

Love the wall trim, paint color, mirror, and lighting in here!

I love the mix of metals, wallpaper, and traditional feel of this space.

I absolutely love these DIY brass and painted shelves and how they fit in so perfectly with the coordinating wall paint and trim. This wall color is gorgeous as well!

Another example of a high backsplash extending from the countertop. I love this countertop material as well. I also loved the unconventional placement of the sconce off to the side.

I love this little shelf and pull-out mirror situation for beside the sink area!

I love this taupe trimwork mixed with the green vanity, dark countertops, and antique sconces and mirror!

I love this sconce/mirror combo and the darker countertops. It’s going to be a hard decision between the dark and lighter marble countertops because I love them both!

I love the high-gloss paint in here and the wallpaper on the ceiling! Our walls are so beat up and I think a higher gloss paint would truly help so much and also make the space look so much more high-end.

I love this wallpaper and the corner built-in! I would love to do something like this in the nook we have by the toilet.
