One Room Challenge: Playroom Makeover - Week 2
Well the room doesn’t look a whole lot different YET but I feel like I still made a lot of progress this week! I have pretty much nailed down all the big design decisions and the layout of the room. Check out my IGTV video here for a behind the scenes look at the entire space and my plans for each wall/area. Below I’m sharing a design board I have put together with my selections so far and more details on each section!

After falling in love with this image below and the bright, fun lemon wallpaper, I decided I just had to incorporate something similar.
I came across this adorable wallpaper which had the same vintage, fun feel BUT it only came is 24x48 inch pieces that were $50 EACH! So I have decided to try to paint the design myself using a stencil hoping it will look exactly like the wallpaper. Stay tuned for more on that in the coming weeks as it will definitely be the most labor-intensive part of this project. I am even going to attempt to make my own stencil using my Silhouette Cameo machine.
This is still the photo I keep coming back to for the built-ins and I’ve started getting some bids/estimates on building these this week. I am wanting one of these on each side of the fireplace and to have the television mounted inside on one side just like in the photo below. I will likely just paint these to match the walls in the room (still debating about maybe doing a contrasting color or the wallpaper inside). Hopefully we can get that rolling in the next couple of weeks!
Today I started putting together this DIY giant chalkboard for one of the walls too! I will definitely share the finished product next week along with all the details of how we built it as well! It was a fairly easy project and I like the fact that it will be moveable as some of the examples I saw were actually painted on the wall.
We are wanting more lounge type furniture in here as opposed to traditional living room/couch seating. My main goal is for everything to be soft and as little sharp edges/tall things for JW to climb as possible! Right now these are my favorite option (will probably float in the middle of the room), but I’m also still considering some chaises and module-type couches/sectionals too.
I found this PERFECT light in my garage (my hoarding is finally paying off) for the center of the room ceiling light. Like I mentioned, right now we don’t have any overhead light in this room so I’m super excited to get this installed next week and crossing my fingers that it still works. I have ordered this light as a backup just in case!
I am also wanting to add some sconces using the magic light trick either over the built-ins, chalkboard wall area, or book shelf area (or maybe a combination of those). Right now these are the sconces I am loving for that.
That’s all for this week! I’m super excited to share next week because I feel like A LOT of progress will be made. Be sure to keep following me on Instagram as I’ll be sharing a lot of behind the scenes and step by step videos on stories!
