Fixer Upper Friday: The Little Shack on the Prairie
I'm so sad that season four is already over! It always seems to fly by, but this season they saved one of the best renovations ever for the last episode! The Little Shack on the Prairie was an over 100 year old crumbling one-room home, hardly big enough to even be considered a house. Although they basically tore down practically the entire structure and started from scratch, I did enjoy getting to see how they re-purposed a lot of the home's original materials, like the tin roof and reclaimed wood siding. By adding on to each side of the house and adding a large front porch, they created some balance and dimension to the front of the house. You can see more before + after photos and get extra details on this renovation here.

My favorite part of this renovation was definitely the outdoor dining room! I especially loved the materials used in this space: the old tin roof tiles on the ceiling, white beadboard on the walls, and reclaimed wood planks as the floor. I was also just a little too excited to see that Joanna used a light fixture out here that I have several of in my home (the flush mount you see below)! I really loved the custom-made industrial pipe chandelier they designed for over the table too! The metal wall planters are the perfect wall art for an outdoor space and I love the contrast of the black against the bright white walls. I've linked lots of similar light fixtures + wall planters below:
The table setting is so classic + clean and will never go out of style. Joanna added just the right amount of texture with the woven placemats and linen napkins too! I can't get enough long planter boxes, especially on outdoor dining tables. Vintage and antique wooden boxes or troughs are perfect for copying this look! I've linked lots of similar dishes, placemats, napkins, + more below!
As far as the furniture, it really is all about this stunning trestle dining table with zinc top! I love the mix of wood with metal- so perfect for outdoor use too. For some contrast, Joanna added simple black metal dining chairs that match the industrial style perfectly but are also super practical. What a great idea to just mount an old wooden box to the wall for a hanging planter too! I've linked some similar table, chair, and planter options below:
Since the latest season is drawing to a close, I will be choosing other episodes from past seasons for my future Fixer Upper Friday posts. Which episode or space would you like to see featured? I would love to hear about your favorite past renovations! You can find the rest of my Fixer Upper Friday posts here.
