It's not Halloween without a little creepy + spooky fun! I love doing a haunted themed room every year in my house and I just happen to have the perfect space for it in our new home. This is a room that I have not shared at all yet on my blog because it's been untouched and neglected since we moved in. It needs a lot of work still but that makes it all the more perfect for a spooky, cobweb-covered space! I think the beat up walls and dark and dreary feel of the room just add to the haunted mansion vibe that I was going for.
When it comes to haunted Halloween decor, I think the best finds are real vintage + antique pieces as opposed to the cheap replicas and decorations you find in-stores now. Items like old candlesticks, glass bottles, and antique books are super easy to find and usually very inexpensive at thrift stores or garage sales. You can find old poison bottle or apothecary printable labels online or at many craft stores too to decorate old glass bottles and decanters (find an easy DIY here). I also love to collect antique portraits when I can find a good deal on them. These end up being the creepiest and most authentic-feeling spooky wall decor.
The key is to keep an eye out year round for these items and by the time Halloween rolls around, you will have a good collection to get you started! The only thing you will need to buy at the store is some faux spider webs and creepy cloth to set the scene (both can be found for a few dollars each)! Some other items I purchase new are dried moss, faux skulls, and fake crows. Michael's has all of these for 50% off quite often, or you can wait until after the holiday and purchase them on clearance to save for the following year. I've put together a list of my spooky decorating essentials for you to check out below! Whether you add just a few of these touches in your space, or go all-out like me, this is such a fun way to get in the Halloween spirit!
