Our Fixer Upper: Updates
It's officially crunch time! We have to be out of our current house in a little over a week which means we will be moving into the new house (ready or not) next weekend. So much is happening at once right now at the house: flooring, tile, painting, appliances being installed, new electric fixtures being hung, and all the new plumbing fixtures getting installed. I'm sure that all the contractors are having a hard time working around each other in some of these tight spaces. Here's some of the progress that was made over the past week:
What a difference some white paint makes! You can't fully tell from the before picture, but these built-ins were just slightly off-white with old paint making them look a little dingy and dated. Our painters are painting all the trim and built-ins in this room with a spray gun (hence all the taped off and covered areas). It really makes the room so much lighter and these built-ins already look brand new! I'm hoping to also eventually paint just the back of these shelves a dark gray so that everything on the shelves will pop! This whole room (walls included) is going to be this same white (Sherwin Williams "Pure White"). I personally love all white spaces and I know this will be a perfect, neutral background that I will never get tired of. All our living room furniture is various tans, browns, and leather tones with lots of mixed textures so that will add plenty of warmth to the space.
Yes, the dark trim is happening! They still have one more coat to go but I couldn't wait to show you all what it looks like! Remember all the wallpaper will be gone and the walls and ceiling will be all white. The top of all the stairs are also all taped off because we are keeping the original wood underneath. This paint color is Sherwin Williams "Iron Ore" and is the perfect dark charcoal gray- almost black. I love how bold it looks and the modern twist it puts on this space.
The new slate tile is also almost complete into the hall off the kitchen, mudroom/laundry, and half bath downstairs. I really love this floor and can't wait to see it fully finished and cleaned up!
Probably the most exciting development of the week was the new floor in the butler's pantry. We wanted something unique and different for the flooring in this room and I LOVE this porcelain tile we picked out. It was hard to picture how it would look filling an entire room but it looks even better than I could have imagined! Next up in here is paint which will really make the entire space look complete.
All the tile in our shower and floor has been completed in the master bath and the plumbers have started installing our new fixtures. I love our modern oil rubbed bronze shower head from Delta (all our fixtures will have this same modern look in here). This room has also gotten one coat of paint on the walls and trim and is SO close to being completely finished.
Thanks for following along with our progress and stay tuned for hopefully many more updates this week!
xoxo
Emily
