Fave Finds
Part of my weekend routine almost always involves a trip to the Lexington Farmer's Market. On Sundays the farmer's market is set up in my neighborhood, so there is no excuse not to swing buy and shop! We try to buy all our vegetables and our meat there each week. Here are some of my favorite finds that I seem to keep getting each and every week:
We have been getting our meat each week from Elmwood Stock Farm, a local organic meat and produce farm located in Georgetown, Kentucky. This week we got some organic free-range chicken, but we have usually been getting ground beef and roast (I used their roast to make my favorite Crockpot Roast Beef). Everything we have gotten here has been such high quality and absolutely delicious! They have plenty of information available on their website about their farm, what produce and meats they have available (with prices), their CSA program, and where/when they are set up at the local farmer's markets.
I also almost always pick up some cheese from Boone Creek Creamery. All their cheeses are completely handmade without any mechanical equipment right here in Lexington, Kentucky. They make their cheese with all natural JD Country Milk, from a family-owned dairy farm in Logan county, Kentucky. You really can taste the difference in quality and flavor between their cheese and other store-bought cheeses. They have over 20 different flavors available, most of which you can taste at the farmer's market. This week I got "Mamma Mia," a herb encrusted Italian flavor cheese that I plan to use on pasta and salads. Some of my other favorites are the "Wildcat Blue", "Smoked Gouda", and "Sassy Redhead." Check out their website for recipes, events, cheese classes, or even to join their "cheese of the month" club!
Another one of my farmer's market staples is the fresh pasta from Lexington Pasta. Their pasta has become really popular locally and can be found in many Lexington groceries and restaurants. All their pasta is homemade right here in Lexington and infused with natural flavors. I've tried just about every kind of pasta they offer and have loved every single one (the Lemon Pepper is probably my favorite). The pastas are so fresh and delicious that you can even eat them with just a little olive oil and seasonings, no sauce needed! If you love making pasta salad, fettuccine, spaghetti or any pasta dish- these will most definitely make any of your recipes even more delicious.
