One Room Challenge: Intro to My Project!

I am so very excited to participate in my very first One Room Challenge starting THIS week! I have always loved following along with this challenge and have found many of my favorite bloggers and designers through it. I really am kind of kicking myself that I hadn’t participated sooner, but the timing finally worked out perfectly so here we are!

This week there’s not a lot of progress to be shared but I wanted to reveal which room I am going to be working on AND some of my ideas and inspiration for the space. I can’t wait to hear your feedback and hope you are exctied to follow along with the transformation of this space! So the space I will be making over is (drumrollll)……..

The PLAYROOM!

So as you can see, the playroom is a pretty boring, blank slate. I painted it all white and have a rug, but that’s about it. Everything else is makeshift using what we had. I have so many fun ideas for this space that I can’t wait to get going on! We need storage, seating, and accessorizing throughout! I want to add a lot of character using vintage pieces I have collected to make the space really unique + FUN! See more of the REAL before (it’s scary) of this space and the links to everything I have so far in this post here.

You can also see a little more of how I decked out this space for John Woodford’s first birthday party here.

Right now we have this semi-finished DIY built-in bench along the back wall but it’s not really working for us how we planned and my husband kind of hated the entire project and is ready to be done with it. So we are open to other options as far as seating, maybe bean bags, maybe oversized chairs, maybe a couch. We just need somewhere we can sit because we do spend a lot of time in here!

  1. Add overhead lighting

  2. Reading nook/ book shelving somewhere

  3. Cute chalkboard area/crafty area.

  4. Comfy adult friendly seating of some sort

  5. STORAGE for toys!

  6. Add a little character to the fireplace- make it pop!

  7. Move piano possibly and add some shelving around it.

  8. Play kitchen area possibly

  9. Maybe wallpaper ceiling or feature wall!

This space (above + below) just keeps drawing me in! I LOVE the fun wallpaper and the built-in around the window. It actually has me reconfiguring my entire room layout so figure out if I could do something like this.

Love the overall color scheme and brightness of this space AND the cubby storage. Thinking that’s a must for at least one wall.

This wallpaper is not really my style but I still love this space- the brightness and hanging chair with all the white!

This space is geared towards slightly older children but I do love the built-in table/desk area so much (especially with the shelving/bulletin board above it). This may be something I keep in mind to incorporate later down the road in this space.

This is the room that had me thinking about wallpaper on the ceiling! I love how whimsical and fun it feels!

I love this little house shaped chalkboard wall and the use of a daybed in here for seating!

This is probabaly a bit more formal than I’m wanting but I also love it for that reason. The mix and of high end and quirky, fun items I really love. The main thing that got my attention here was that built in beside the fireplace. I was thinking something on each side of our fireplace like that would work in the room so well and help define the space. I also like having the TV off on one side so I have the firepalce mantle to decorate!

I love this framed chalkboard wall especially with those cute lights mounted above it! Thinking of doing this with the magic light trick!

I don’t know what it is about this space that draws me in. It just feels cozy and lived and and overall that’s how I want this space to feel.

I am in love with this GIANT book wall and would love to incorporate something like this for the space. We have SO many books because I’ve been collecting children’s books for years. I would love to show them off with something like this.

Love these sweet kitchen areas above and below. Not quite sure I will have enough room for a big area but I’d love to have something like this. I love the wooden kitchen sets and all the neutrals. I do have my old Playschool kitchen that I saved but not sure if it’s what I’m wanting for the space.

I was originally thinking something more along these lines on each side of the fireplace for storage or filling one entire wall, but now I’m thinking not this much/heavy cabinetry and something more open/smaller scale. I still do love the overall look of this room though and especially all the vitnage toys!

Love overall the feel of this space because it has so many different areas and so much character! I do love the big oversized corner chair and think that may be a good option for our seating. Also I like the kraft paper roll on the wall- super fun!

Well I think that about covers it all for now! Time to jump in and get started! Each week I’ll be posting a progress update on Thursdays so I hope you’ll enjoy following along! Let me know your thoughts and ideas on my inspiration photos and plans for the space in the comments below! Thanks so much for following along!
